Trailer DIY Project – Reclaiming a Cupboard
TomCon was fully decked out for modern living, but camping is a more minimalist pursuit for us. We decided to take out the microwave that had been installed so we could gain some more cupboard space. Whoever installed the microwave cut a hole in the cupboard door and then nailed the remaining frame to the face of the cabinet. We were able to remove the narrow frame to start rebuilding the cupboard door.
We also decided to remove the original wallpaper from the interior of the cupboard.
We primed and painted the frame. On one of our runs to Home Depot we saw some perforated sheet metal and thought that would add some interest to the door, instead of just using luan to fill in.
Craig cut the metal to fit and created a wood inner frame to cover the edge of the metal. Then we primed and painted it. It made a great looking door!
Our cupboard was now available for our dishes, glasses (acrylic, of course) and a cute wine rack I found at Target. Cheers!
